Z&Z Medical Thanksgiving Traditions 7

Every year our family tradition is to decorate our home for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving.  My wife (Mindy), and our 3 kids, Lilian (17), Aaron (14), and Austin (8) start with the Christmas tree and all of the decorations, then the kids seem to lose interest and head to their rooms to decorate their own mini-trees or do more “cool” things.  My wife and I finish up the rest, which in truth is mostly her with my contributions being the heavy lifting of decoration storage boxes or anything high up out of reach.

With our daughter nearing graduation this year and college next year, we were happy to hear her ask if she could still come help decorate even after she has a place of her own in the coming years.

Me and my sisters love watching horror movies and just being silly in the kitchen taking leftovers as part of our Thanksgiving traditions

Thanksgiving at the Zabel house always revolves around a traditional turkey dinner served at noon. For 2021 we decided to revive an old Thanksgiving tradition since it was the first Thanksgiving in a long time that we didn't have any grandkids that required afternoon naps. Our old tradition was a friendly game of Bingo with lots of great prizes valued at $5 or less. When the prizes were half gone we had all the winners open their gifts and then any winners after that could choose one of the open gifts or take their chances on an unopened gift. At the conclusion everyone had at least one gift and then the bartering began to try and trade off any unwanted gifts for something of greater value. A good time was had by all!

Our family loves to visit San Francisco. My oldest brother lived there for years so our family would visit him quite often. Going to 49er games, walking the Golden Gate and going to Alcatraz were some of our memories there. Also, one of our favorite places to go is The Buena Vista http://thebuenavista.com/home/home.html. Its full of tradition and its claim to fame are the famous Irish Coffees. Now that we don't have as much time to travel over the holidays, we bring the coffee's to us. We have perfected the recipe, complete with whipped cream and sugar cubes. This has been our family tradition for years, and have even brought it to my husbands family at Christmas time.

Z&Z Medical Thanksgiving Traditions:

One of our Thanksgiving traditions is getting together as a family the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving somewhere in the mountains. This allows us to have an extended weekend together with no stress of having to rush to get to somewhere else. We rent a cabin in the woods, enjoy nature, eat lots of good food, and enjoy spending time with each other. This year was extra special as we got to spend it with our grandson who just turned 2. I got to start a NEW tradition - baking cookies! with him. We had so much fun and was covered in flour from head to toe. Truly blessed this year!
