The leg length x-ray filter consists of a base plate with magnetic strips to allow easy placement of both the AP and lateral wedges.

One wedge for the leg length.  One wedge for the AP or PA thoracic/lumbar view. One wedge for the cervical spine in the lateral view. The graduated leg length wedge will improve the leg length image equalizing the density from the hips to the ankles. The AP thoracic wedge will reduce radiation to the thyroid & improve the image quality. The lateral cervical spine wedge reduces overexposure to the cervical spine improving the image.  There is no need to change exposure.   Since the technique for the leg length is set for the AP hips the lower legs are overexposed.  The graduated slope of the leg filter compensates for this overexposure and improves the image. There is a radiation reduction to the patient.  The base plate with the magnetic strips is slid into the collimator rails. The filters have corresponding magnetic strips and are placed into position on the base plate. Radiation measurements are available on request.

The Leg Length Filter is for both CR / DR and film. Can be used at both 72 to 100 inches. The filter is graduated to decrease exposure to the lower leg. The thin portion is positioned at mid-thigh. This graduation in the filter will even out the exposure. It has magnetic strips, which make for easy placement on the base plate. The leg filter is part of the scoliosis filter set.

To ensure the correct filter for your collimator, you must provide the vertical and horizontal lengths of the rails on the collimator that the filter will slide into. The vertical dimension is the distance between the rails (including the depth of the slot in the rail). The horizontal dimension is the length of the rails. Please use the Measuring Instructions link below to help determine these dimensions.
