In the aftermath of the devastating destruction caused by Hurricane Helene, our hearts and thoughts remain with our valued customers, partners, and communities across Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The impact of this hurricane has been immense, and we are deeply saddened by the challenges so many are facing.

We asked our employees two questions this year as they reflect on their birthday and purpose. 

1. If you could raise awareness about one thing, what would it be? I really am passionate about adopting shelter animals. Especially dogs. There are so many really wonderful canines that need a second chance at life and it’s really sad how many get adopted only to be returned to the shelter which is incredibly difficult and confusing for them. In many cases they shut down and develop social anxiety. It’s important to remember when adopting a pet that they have been traumatized and need time to adjust to their new surroundings. I’ve read that it takes 2 or 3 weeks for a dog to start to feel comfortable in its new home and usually 3 months to learn its role in the pack. Adopting a dog is a commitment and takes work. We have 3 rescue animals in our home, 2 dogs and a cat.    

2. What’s one thing about you that others might be surprised to learn? At this point in my life, I doubt anyone who knows me would be surprised by anything but new people I meet, or casual acquaintances might be surprised to find out that I really enjoy history. I could spend hours reading or watching documentaries about world history and events.
