Protect Yourself from High Energy Direct Beam and Low Energy Scatter Radiation

When it comes to safeguarding against radiation exposure in cath labs and interventional radiology settings, Scatter Armor disposable radiation shields stand out as crucial protective gear. These shields are designed to mitigate the risks associated with scattered radiation during these procedures, offering a vital defense for Radiologists and other healthcare professionals.

Radiation exposure is a significant concern in various medical procedures, including X-rays, fluoroscopies, and interventional radiology. Scatter Armor disposable shields serve as a barrier, minimizing the harmful effects of scattered radiation and reducing the potential long-term health risks associated with prolonged exposure.

“The scattered radiation from the patient comprises the main source of radiation dose to staff” – International Atomic Energy Agency

X-rays deflect off of the patient and table during interventional procedures. These shields block radiation at the source with Scatter Armor Radiation Shields

  • Reduce chest exposure by 55-80%
  • Reduce hand exposure by more than 49%
  • Disposable, highly absorbent, and flexible.

How it Works - Sterile Scatter Armor Shields are placed on top of the patient drape to block scatter radiation at the source, creating a scatter-free zone, reducing harmful radiation exposure to the doctor or clinician.

One Time Use - Scatter Armor Shields are lead-free and disposable.

Sterile - Packaged individually in sterile packets.

Flexible - Scatter Armor Shields easily mold to the patients body for ease of use and maximum protection

Bridging the Gap: New MRI Mobile Barriers for Interventional Suites with X-ray and MRI Capabilities

Medical technology continues to advance at a breathtaking pace, and the introduction of MRI Mobile Barriers for interventional suites with X-ray and MRI capabilities is yet another milestone in the realm of healthcare innovation. These cutting-edge barriers have the potential to revolutionize the way we approach interventional procedures, offering flexibility, safety, and efficiency like never before.

Interventional suites are critical spaces within healthcare facilities, where intricate procedures such as catheterizations, biopsies, and stent insertions are performed. These procedures often require real-time imaging, typically provided by X-ray and also MRI equipment. However, combining both imaging modalities in a single suite has historically presented challenges in terms of space and safety. That's where the new MRI Mobile Barriers come into play.

Here are some key highlights of these innovative solutions:

  1. Dual Imaging Capability: One of the most remarkable features of these mobile barriers is their ability to seamlessly provide radiation protection in the interventional suite, while still being MR safe. This dual capability streamlines the diagnostic process, providing physicians with access to both real-time X-ray images and the exceptional soft tissue visualization of MRI scans.

  1. Flexibility and Adaptability: The mobile barriers are designed for versatility. They are available in different sizes, allowing healthcare providers to create a tailored environment for each procedure. This adaptability enhances efficiency and optimizes space utilization.
  2. Patient Safety: Safety is paramount during interventional procedures. These barriers are equipped with advanced shielding to ensure that healthcare professionals are protected from potential radiation exposure during the interventional procedure and yet safe in the magnetic field.
  3. Improved Workflow: Integrating X-ray and MRI capabilities into a single suite reduces the need for patient transfers between different rooms or departments, simplifying the workflow and saving valuable time. This results in a more streamlined and patient-centric experience.
  4. Enhanced Patient Care: The convenience of having both imaging modalities readily available can lead to quicker and more accurate diagnoses, ultimately contributing to better patient outcomes. It also minimizes the stress and discomfort associated with multiple scans in different locations.

These new MRI Mobile Barriers for interventional suites mark a significant advancement in healthcare technology. By combining the strengths of X-ray and MRI in one space, they offer a holistic solution for medical professionals, ensuring that they have the best tools at their disposal to provide high-quality patient care and have Leaded Mobile Barrier Shield Protection from radiation yet safe for the room with MRI.

As we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of medical technology, innovations like these barriers illustrate the importance of efficiency, adaptability, and patient safety. By bridging the gap between X-ray and MRI in interventional suites, these barriers are opening new possibilities for healthcare providers, leading to better patient outcomes and a more patient-centered approach to care.

Attention Radiology Departments: We Can All Do Our Part on America Recycle Day

It’s important that we do our part and recycle all those old lead x-ray aprons that may be laying around. As we know, lead is very harmful to the environment and must be disposed of properly. It’s important to note that some states may have different regulations and requirements than others, so check your local disposal regulations.

A few ways for lead apron disposal:

  1. Contact a recycling company. You can contact a local recycling (or “re-claimer”) scrap metal company and see if they recycle lead products.
  2. Contact your hazardous waste carrier or handling company. Sometimes a local hazardous waste carrier or handling company will come to you and pick-up the lead apron. It’s important to follow your state and local regulations and check to confirm the handling company is licensed.
  3. Bring your aprons to a local landfill. Many local landfills will accept lead aprons however, sometimes landfills won’t accept lead aprons with large cracks or damage due to high toxicity levels.

There may be more ways to dispose of lead aprons but these are the most common and appropriate disposal methods. It’s important to know that you cannot throw away lead aprons in the regular trash!
