Attention All Imaging Departments: We Can All Do Our Part on America Recycle Day

It’s important that we do our part and recycle all those old lead x-ray aprons that may be laying around. As we know, lead is very harmful to the environment and must be disposed of properly. It’s important to note that some states may have different regulations and requirements than others, so check your local disposal regulations.

A few ways for lead apron disposal:

  1. Contact a recycling company. You can contact a local recycling (or “re-claimer”) scrap metal company and see if they recycle lead products.
  2. Contact your hazardous waste carrier or handling company. Sometimes a local hazardous waste carrier or handling company will come to you and pick-up the lead apron. It’s important to follow your state and local regulations and check to confirm the handling company is licensed.
  3. Bring your aprons to a local landfill. Many local landfills will accept lead aprons however, sometimes landfills won’t accept lead aprons with large cracks or damage due to high toxicity levels.

There may be more ways to dispose of lead aprons but these are the most common and appropriate disposal methods. It’s important to know that you cannot throw away lead aprons in the regular trash!

Enhance Safety with C-Arm Table X-Ray Scatter Drapes: A Must-Have for Your Clinic

In any office, clinic, or department equipped with a C-Arm, staff safety is paramount. One of the best investments to ensure this safety is the use of C-Arm Table X-Ray Scatter Drapes. Designed to minimize dangerous scatter radiation, these drapes act as an essential protective barrier between the C-Arm’s X-ray source and your staff, reducing exposure and lowering dosimeter badge readings significantly.

Why Scatter Drapes Are Essential

Scatter radiation is an inevitable byproduct of X-ray imaging, especially in procedures requiring extended or high-frequency use of C-Arms. Without proper shielding, this radiation exposes staff to unnecessary health risks. Scatter drapes offer a simple, effective solution to mitigate this hazard, absorbing radiation at the source and minimizing exposure.

Benefits of C-Arm Table Scatter Drapes:

  • Enhanced Protection: Reduce scatter radiation exposure to staff, promoting a safer work environment.
  • Lower Badge Readings: Consistent use of scatter drapes helps keep dosimeter badge readings low, ensuring that your facility stays within regulatory limits.
  • Cost-Effective Safety Measure: Investing in scatter drapes not only protects staff but also can save on potential health-related costs down the line.

For any practice using C-Arm technology, these drapes are not just recommended—they’re a necessity. Equip your team with the best tools for safety and peace of mind.

THE PRINCESS VEST: Made for women, designed by women

Looking for a Lead Vest Made Just for Women? We have one! Unisex radiation protection garments have not only been the standard choice for female providers, but they were also the only choice. Women in radiology had to settle for either a flat garment that places pressure on the breasts, or a loose garment that can allow harmful radiation to penetrate the sides of the breasts. Female leaders of Burlington Medical, a product designer who worked in the fashion industry for more than 40 years, and a Registered Nurse with years of experience in interventional radiology, decided that female providers needed a specialized solution. Their creation not only minimizes radiation exposure to the breasts and axilla, but is more ergonomically sound and reduces musculoskeletal strain.

SHAPED FOR THE FEMALE BODY
Princess Vests are designed exclusively for the female form. The innovative Princess Seam creates a convex shape that molds to the breasts. By eliminating the flat, angular designs of unisex vests, Princess Vests offer greater comfort and easier movement to female providers.

PROVIDING PROTECTION WOMEN NEED
Unisex apron designs can leave the sides of the breasts and axilla exposed to scatter radiation. The contoured shape of the Princess Vest more closely fits the breasts, lymph nodes, axilla, and front neck areas, providing better radiation protection to sensitive tissue and organs.

RELIEVING MUSCULOSKELETAL STRAIN
The close, contoured fit of the Princess Vest eliminates excess overlap, shaving the overall weight of the garment. An integrated elastic band amplifies the ergonomic design allowing a more comfortable fit.

“The solution is both the construction and shape of the convex seam, the Princess Seam, which hugs the breast tissue, giving the advantage of better fit and protection. This unique design allows the flat, protective core material to be fit much closer to the shape of the breasts and axillary area whilst giving greater comfort and protection. It also eliminates extra material from the closure systems of unisex vests, greatly reducing the overall weight.”    ~ Denise Johnson, inventor of the Princess Vest
