Fun Fact Friday #1
Did you know that the first x-ray image ever taken was of a human hand? In 1895, Wilhelm Röntgen, a German physicist, accidentally discovered x-rays while conducting experiments with cathode ray tubes. He was amazed by the images he saw on a screen that was located a few feet away from the tube, and he quickly realized that the rays produced by the tube could be used to create images of the bones in the human body.
To test his theory, Röntgen placed his wife's hand between the cathode ray tube and the screen and took an x-ray image of it. The image showed the bones in her hand and fingers, as well as the wedding ring she was wearing. Röntgen's discovery revolutionized the field of medicine and led to the development of x-ray technology as we know it today.
So the next time you have an x-ray taken, you can thank Wilhelm Röntgen for his groundbreaking discovery and the amazing technology that allows us to see inside the human body like never before.
