Mammography is a medical imaging exam used to detect breast cancer in women. There are several different types of mammography equipment available for use in clinical settings, each with its own unique features and capabilities.

One of the most common types of mammography machines is the full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system. This type of system uses digital detectors to capture high-resolution images of the breast, which can be viewed and analyzed on a computer screen. FFDM systems are highly sensitive and can detect small abnormalities that may not be visible on traditional film-based mammography.

Another type of mammography machine is the digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) system. This type of system uses a low-dose x-ray to capture multiple images of the breast, which are then used to create a 3D reconstruction of the breast tissue. DBT systems are particularly useful for detecting small tumors that may be hidden by dense breast tissue.

National Mammography Day is a part of Breast Cancer Awareness month and is celebrated on the third Friday of October every year.

Mammograms are a hugely important aspect of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as millions of women across the globe are encouraged to attend Mammography screenings as part of the defense against developing breast cancer.
