Happy Birthday Kevin
We asked our employees to comment on 2 things this year as they celebrate their birthday:
- What’s the best career advice you ever got?
Coming out of high school all I wanted to do is work on cars. It had been my passion during my growing up years so I enrolled in the Auto body Repair program at our local technical college. By the time I graduated with my degree I knew that working on cars was not what I wanted to do for a career. I couldn’t envision myself working on cars in my fifties so I had to tell my father that he had probably wasted his money on my education. He told me that it was not a waste of money because I now had a sellable skill that no one could take away from me. He also told me that when times would get hard, guys without a sellable skill would be a dime a dozen but I would always have a trade to fall back on. So I guess the advice would be to not be afraid to make changes in your career path and make sure you have a sellable skill.
- What’s one thing you’re looking forward to on your birthday?
I normally don’t make a big deal about my birthday and kind of treat it as just another day. This year we have a baby shower in the family on my birthday so I’m looking forward to spending time with family.
