International Dog Day 2023

Love dogs?  So do we!  Today is International Dog Day and is recognized worldwide on August 26th. A day to celebrate all dogs and encourage adoption. Vets frequently use x-rays to examine your pet's bones, internal organs and tissues so they can diagnose issues such as fractures in bones, foreign objects your pet may have swallowed, bladder stones and more. X-rays can help your vet capture two-dimensional images and detect pregnancy, enlarged organs and some tumors.

Z&Z Medical carries a wide array of imaging supplies and accessories to make imaging our favorite pets as easy as possible.  Visit the Veterinary section of our website to learn more!

Celebrate National Mutt Day

Celebrate National Mutt Day

National Mutt Day encourages us to embrace, save and celebrate mixed breed dogs twice a year on July 31st and December 2nd.

Desperately longing for a new home, millions of loving and healthy mixed breed dogs in shelters wait for someone to come and adopt them. More than half of the dogs in the United States are mutts. National Mutt Day provides an excellent opportunity to find the perfect canine companion. Despite the name, a mutt learns, obeys and trains much like purebred animals. While their lineage cannot be traced and their features a bit murky, their companionship will be faithful.

HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalMuttDay  Visit a shelter; if you are unable to adopt a dog, you can always volunteer at a shelter.

Hug Your Cat Day!

Hug Your Cat Day!

Hug Your Cat Day, sometimes referred to as National Hug Your Cat Day, is an unofficial holiday celebrated on June 4. It is a perfect opportunity for all cat owners to express a little extra love to their furry companions. The origin of Hug Your Cat is unknown, but do you really need justification to give a hug to your furry friend? Go ahead and give your cat a big squeeze!

If your cat is a cuddler, consider yourself lucky. You can curl up on your couch, cuddling with your cat. In case your pet is not fond of hugs, make it quick and beware of claws. If you don’t have your own cat to hug, ask a friend who owns a cat to lend you their pet for some much needed cuddling. We are sure they won’t deny you! Or you can adopt a cat from a local shelter and hug your new pet as much as you want.

While today is the day to love on cats, keep in mind that good health and regular visits to the veterinarian for checkups is important. Z&Z Medical carries a full line of imaging accessories to help veterinary facilities image our furry friends. Keep us in mind when you need to update your facility for positioning accessories or radiation protection.

Do Turtles get X-Rays?

Do Turtles get X-Rays?

The purpose of World Turtle Day is to educate people about the things that they can do to protect the habitats of turtle and tortoises. The day was created as a yearly observance to help people celebrate and protect turtles and tortoises and their disappearing habitats around the world. The day is celebrated in a number of ways all over the world from dressing up as turtles or wearing green summer dresses, to saving turtles caught on highways, to research activities. Turtle Day lesson plans and craft projects encourage teaching about turtles in classrooms.

Radiography of turtles is routinely used for evaluation of traumatic injuries and the gastrointestinal and reproductive tract. An x-ray exam typically includes lateral and dorsoventral views. Additional collimated views of areas of interest are often obtained in specific species like the craniocaudal view   to complete the study.

Unlike dogs or cats, whole-body radiographs are taken of turtles in order to visualize the entire main body cavity. In addition, horizontal beam radiographs of turtles and tortoises are important for visualization of the lungs. Turtles can undergo x-ray exams awake, but general anesthesia is sometimes required to ensure good-quality positioning. Conscious turtles and tortoises have the ability to hold their extremities and head within or close to their shells. In the instance of fracture, sedation or anesthesia may be needed to relax the neck or extremity and isolate it, avoiding superimposition with the shell, for a more complete evaluation. Radiographs provide critical information that can greatly affect the outcome of rehabilitation efforts

Z&Z Medical is proud to offer the imaging tools necessary for imaging turtles and tortoises. Popular items like Cassette Holders, Vinyl Bolsters, Radiation Protection items, and other Immobilizers are available on our website and also in the Veterinary section on our website to browse the many accessories that we offer.
