Patient Comfort: 3-Fold Reasons Why It's Important

Patient comfort is becoming a higher priority for hospitals, and the reasons are three-fold: It boosts patient satisfaction, improves outcomes and is the right thing to do. Radiology Professionals understand that comfort before, during, and after an examination is important for both the patient and for good image quality, and many health care manufacturers have boosted their efforts to create equipment and accessories that make the patient experience more comfortable. There are three primary reasons that those in Medical Imaging should focus on patient comfort and care. First, if a patient is comfortable, they are more likely to hold still, therefore facilitating a better diagnostic image and less repeats. Second, patients who are made more comfortable during their care are imaged more quickly which increases the throughput in a room. Third, a patient who has a good experience is more likely to come back to the imaging center when they need additional care or tell others about how caring the facility was.

Imaging Departments are increasingly recognizing the connection between patient comfort and business success is more than just having state-of-the-art equipment. Having imaging related products that provide stability and comfort for the patient are extremely important and products that meet infection control guidelines are just as important. Having products in the department that improve patient satisfaction and don’t interfere with imaging is always a win win situation. Z&Z Medical is proud to promote two of our Z&Z Medical Exclusive Products:

CLOSED CELL SPONGES ARE 100% CLEANABLE

It’s not often that we get the opportunity to be excited about new things in Medical Imaging, but this is one of those times. I am talking about Innovation in Foam Cell Technology. Sponges are frequently used during imaging to position patients for an imaging examination.  You are also aware of the problems that have become a part of the territory when working with foam sponges.   Depending on the material that they are made of, they can be very difficult to clean, if they can even be cleaned at all like the non-coated foam positioners are that fail inspections.

Technologists have no more worries about how to clean their sponges or having sponges that would pass the rigorous inspections of Joint Commission or State Inspectors.  In the past, the older non-coated gray sponges were the only ones that would not produce artifacts - BUT - you also couldn’t clean them.  Coated sponges solved the cleaning aspect—BUT - they created horrible artifacts in the image.  Our innovative Closed Cell Sponge Positioners give you the best of both worlds!  There are no artifacts, and they are easy to clean and disinfect with 10% bleach solution or any hospital grade disinfectant wipe or spray after every use.

I’m here to tell you we have a new type of positioning sponge that is 100% cleanable! These closed cell sponge positioners are manufactured using a fine micro-cellular structure that is resistant to fluids. This makes them super easy to clean! Now you see why we’re so excited to tell you about our artifact-free positioning sponges and here are three reasons why you’ll love them too!

  1. 100% Cleanable with any medical grade disinfectant or 10% bleach solution.
  2. Will not absorb liquid or fluids.
  3. Artifact Free.

I Need to Replace My Sponges - HELP!

What do you do when it’s time to replace your old worn out sponges? What’s New? What options are out there?  Well, Z&Z Medical has spent a lot of time doing the research for you and creating an array of foam positioners that you can be comfortable with. Let us help answer some of those difficult questions:

  1. I need to replace my old worn out torn sponges, but I know we can’t have those open cell grey sponges. What should we choose for replacements? We highly recommend Z&Z Medical Exclusive Closed Cell Foam Positioners. These light grey closed cell sponges are manufactured out of a crosslink polyethylene foam that is non-porous, radiolucent, and easy to clean! They are manufactured using a fine micro-cellular structure that is characterized by its firm feel and its resistance to fluids. It has a higher tensile and tear strength compared to most foam products on the market.  These closed cell sponges make the best positioning aides and are manufactured right here in the USA.

  1. Some coated sponges that we have gotten in the past tear easily. What do you suggest as a good “CLEANABLE” sponge replacement that will hold up over time? We recommend Z&Z Medical Exclusive Closed Cell Foam Positioners. There is no need for a thinly applied coating that will easily tear.  The foam itself is closed cell crosslink micro-cellular structure that is non-porous, meaning it will not absorb any fluids unlike the un-coated open cell sponges that are on the market and that tear easily. The crosslink density of this foam is extremely high, and the surface can be easily cleaned & disinfected making them an excellent positioner for any imaging facility.

  1. We had to replace some sponges and we got coated sponges – but they show bad artifacts. What can we get that is cleanable and will pass inspections from a quality control standpoint? We recommend Z&Z Medical Exclusive Closed Cell Foam Positioners. These positioners are amazing and do NOT show any artifacts at all. Closed cell sponges are radiolucent allowing the x-ray to pass right through and not be blocked and there is no chemical coating that will show artifacts during imaging. When used under normal imaging technique, our sponges offer superior image radiolucency and no artifacts.

  1. We need to replace our sponges but have to use a medical grade disinfectant spray to clean them with. What sponge replacement do you recommend? We recommend Z&Z Medical Exclusive Closed Cell Foam Positioners. The surface can easily be cleaned after every patient with a hospital grade medical disinfectant or 10% bleach solution.
