A MRI Handheld Metal Detector that Can Go INSIDE the MRI Room

A MRI Handheld Metal Detector that Can Go INSIDE the MRI Room

MRI hand metal detectors are a vital piece of equipment for every MRI facility. These detectors are designed to detect and locate metal objects on or within a patient's body before they enter the MRI scanner. This is important because metal objects can cause significant damage to the patient and the MRI equipment if they are present during an MRI scan.

This unique MRI handheld scanner is designed to mitigate the risk of radiofrequency (RF) burn and projectile risk durin gn MRI scan. The device can separately detect ferrous mettalic items alone, or all non-ferous metallic items. Due to its non-magnetic device construction, it can be used inside the MRI room (Zone 4) itself, without the risk of being attracted to or damaged by the magnets, thus not comprising performance or creating a potential projectile risk. It can also be utilized as part of the pre-screening process outside of the MRI room.

This new MRI handheld metal detector features a large detection area for fast and accurate screening operations, with dual-tone and dual-color signaling that enables high precision pinpointing of item location. To maximize screening flexibility and versatility, three modes of operation are available: HEAD - high performance ferrous only for very small magnetic metals, BODY – small magnetic metals detection typically in the body, or ALL METALS - all metal detection around the whole body. Operability and safety of the device have been verified with up to 3T MRI scanners.

An MRI contains powerful magnetic field that attracts ferrous (iron-containing) metals and can cause serious injury; when ferrous-based materials, nickel alloys, and most stainless steel materials reach the MRI magnet’s fringe field, they can be strongly attracted, at high speed (up to 60 km/h), towards the bore of the magnet, known as the projectile effect. The magnetic field also causes translational forces, wherein the attracted objects react by aligning parallel to the magnetic lines of force. This effect has created life-threatening conditions for patients with some medical implants. And even in the absence of injury, metal objects can distort the MRI image and make it difficult to read.

Overall, this new MRI handheld patient screening metal detector is an essential piece of equipment for every MRI facility. They help to ensure patient safety, protect the MRI equipment, and are easy to use and cost-effective.

MRI Accidents like this can be avoided!

Accidents like this should never happen! Injuries to Staff and Damage to Property can be avoided when the necessary safety measures are in place. It is critical to Update the Safety in Your MRI Facility and don't take for granted that all is ok with your written safety plan. According to a recent social media post, last week a prominent hospital in California had a major accident in the MRI Suite resulting in significant damage, and injury to staff.  The MRI tech was not in the room, MRI table was outside of the MRI room, Nurse and tech-aide brought patient into the MRI room on a non-safe MRI stretcher. Patient was thrown from the bed and the nurse incurred a broken femur and pelvis.

We all know that MRI uses a powerful magnetic field to produce detailed images of internal organs and structures of the body. While MRI is generally considered a safe procedure, it can pose significant risks to patients and staff if proper safety measures are not followed.  The accident above could have been prevented with the use of a safety device like TechGate from Z&Z Medical.

TechGate is a device designed to prevent ferromagnetic objects from being brought into the MRI room. Ferromagnetic objects, such as oxygen cylinders, wheelchairs, and gurneys can be attracted to the strong magnetic field of the MRI machine and become dangerous projectiles like shown in the photo above. TechGate uses a series of sensors and alarms to detect the presence of ferromagnetic objects and prevent them from entering the MRI room.

MRI safety is essential for the well-being of patients and staff members. The use of safety devices like TechGate can help to prevent accidents and reduce the risk of injury. It is important for healthcare providers to prioritize MRI safety and ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to protect patients and staff members.

In addition to using safety devices like TechGate, healthcare providers should also follow best practices for MRI safety, such as screening patients for contraindications, ensuring that all staff members are properly trained on MRI safety, and following established protocols for MRI procedures.

MRI is a valuable diagnostic tool that has revolutionized medical imaging. By prioritizing MRI safety and using tools like TechGate, healthcare providers can ensure that patients and staff members can continue to benefit from this technology without unnecessary risks.

The Must-Have Pediatric Med-Vac Immobilizer

At Z&Z Medical, we are proud to offer a range of products designed to help medical imaging professionals provide the best possible care to their patients, including our Pediatric Med-Vac Immobilizer.

The Pediatric Med-Vac Immobilizer is a specialized medical device that is specifically designed to help pediatric patients stay still and comfortable during MRI procedures. It is made with soft, padded materials that help to snuggle and protect the littlest of patients, and it is an effective way to eliminate the need for sedation in many cases.

One of the key benefits of the Pediatric Med-Vac Immobilizer is that it helps to reduce motion during MRI procedures. This is especially important when it comes to pediatric patients, as even a small amount of movement can make it difficult to get high-quality x-ray images or perform other procedures. By helping to keep patients still and comfortable, the Pediatric Med-Vac Immobilizer can make it easier for MRI technologists to get the results they need.

In addition to helping to reduce motion, the Pediatric Med-Vac Immobilizer is also designed with patient comfort in mind. It is made with soft, padded materials that help to cushion and protect patients, and it is easy to use and adjust as needed.

Overall, the Pediatric Med-Vac Immobilizer is a valuable tool for any MRI department that works with pediatric patients, and we are proud to offer it to our customers. If you're looking for a way to help your littlest patients stay still and comfortable during medical imaging procedures, be sure to check out the Pediatric Med-Vac Immobilizer from Z&Z Medical.
